Who We Are
PICAM is a nonprofit, non-governmental
organization, independent of any government influence, political
ideology, and religious persuasion. Established in August 2006, PICAM is
dedicated to improving and transforming the Cameroonian society through
innovative research, practice, and programs based on a collection of factors necessary to foster an
overall improvement in human dignity. At the core of our work is the
need to build a strong civil society on the belief that this is critical
for the democratic transformation needed in Cameroon.
PICAM adopts a comprehensive approach
through a combination of committed programs in human rights,
democracy,
peace building,
development, and
humanitarian assistance. We recognize
that respect for human rights is a vital part of human contentment; that
democratic participation is an inseparable value of good and accountable
governance; that peace and stability are integral elements of human
interaction; that development through active participation is necessary
to bring meaningful improvement in the lives of people; and that
humanitarian assistance is an invaluable means to reach those who are
economically and socially outside the reach of mainstream services and
support - such as the poor, orphans, the sick, the disabled, street
children, rural populations, and other vulnerable or marginalized
groups.

Vision
PICAM’s vision is of a
Cameroon in which everyone enjoys all of the human rights enshrined
in international
conventions and national laws; a Cameroon in which democratic principles are
respected and upheld; a Cameroon in which peace and justice prevails and everyone
enjoys equal opportunities; a Cameroon in which individuals and
communities are empowered to their full potentials; a Cameroon in which
there are support structures for the poor, distressed, disabled, and underprivileged.

Background
PICAM was founded by
Eric Ngonji Njungwe in August 2006. His experience as a human
rights advocate in Cameroon and abroad was very instrumental in founding
PICAM not just as a human rights organization, but one that adopts a
broad-based approach to the realization of human dignity. Eric strongly
believes that for human dignity to be sustained, the approach must be
inclusive. It is his view that human happiness cannot be determined by
any single factor, but is rather rooted in a collection of factors
necessary to foster an overall improvement in human dignity. PICAM
therefore adopts a comprehensive approach to improving human dignity
through a combination of committed programs in human rights, democracy,
peace building, development, and humanitarian assistance.
PICAM also fills the need for an
organization that will galvanize the youth, by building a strong and
effective civil society on the belief that this is critical for the
democratic transformation needed in Cameroon. Since its establishment, PICAM has
maintained an open policy that gives due consideration to the views
of anyone that supports its mission and vision. You could
