STELLA LUKONG SHULIKA - LLB Hons (Buea); BA Hons in International Relations (UFS)

Stella is a researcher and an academic facilitator/tutor in the Department of Political Science at the University of the Free State, with distinctive interests in Africa’s International Relations, research and teaching in the field of Human Rights, Democracy, Conflict, Peace and Security studies.  She is a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Buea, Cameroon, and Bachelor’s of Arts Degree (BA) Hons in International Relations from the University of the Free State, South Africa. She also holds a certificate in Project Management and has attended a number of training workshops and seminars on Conflict Intervention Mechanisms, Human Rights, Governance and Development, Human Security and Peace Support Operations.

Stella’s interests in the afore-mentioned fields stem from her enthusiasm to gain insight into and contribute in addressing the escalating day to day political, economic, and socio-cultural challenges that have engulfed and is retarding the prosperity of contemporary African States. Her reflection on Africa also focuses and speaks of Cameroon which though appears peaceful in the eyes of the world, is an example of a democracy in limbo and suffers from poor governance and internal but silent conflicts. Stella believes that the wide-ranging and immeasurable ramifications of such instability in Cameroon are a result of poor governance and underdevelopment, and holds that the attainment of sustainable peace and security necessitate concerted efforts towards democracy, human rights, and human security.

Stella’s background in Law and International Relations has molded and aided her development for an insatiable appetite for diligent performance and has honed her analytical and research skills. She has written and co-authored articles on topics like Xenophobia, Peace-keeping, Peace-building, Child Soldiers and Human Security. Prior to her current undertakings, Stella worked as a Legal Adviser and Conflict Management Officer at the Agriculture Development and Corporate Management Consultancy (ADCMC) Buea; a Field Administrator, Human Rights Educator/Facilitator at the Help Out Centre for Human Rights Buea; and as Project and Field Research Assistant at the Buea Rural Women Development Centre (RUWDEC).

She can be contacted at sshulika@ccdhr.org.
