I am pleased to introduce to you Progressive Initiative for Cameroon
(PICAM). PICAM is the result of years of reflection. PICAM was
incorporated as a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in the State
of Maryland, United States of America on August 1, 2006 as an
organization that will advocate for the institution of democracy in the
Republic of Cameroon.
PICAM was founded against the background of social injustices, human
rights violations, poor governance, corruption, disregard for the rule
of law, underdevelopment, lack of support mechanisms for the
underprivileged, and other forms of social ills that continue to plague
the Cameroonian society.
PICAM’s main objective is to
perpetuate the course of social justice through broad-based programs
that promote a vibrant civil society capable of bringing about peaceful
and meaningful change to the socio-political situation, and the
establishment of a sustainable democracy in Cameroon. PICAM will carry
out programs in five major areas – human rights, democracy, peace
building, development, and humanitarian assistance. Visit our
programs page for a full description of these
programs. The goals of our programs are achieved through various
projects. Visit our projects page for a
description of our current projects.
PICAM operates independently and also in partnership with other
organizations that support its mission and vision. Our global
affiliations give us the opportunity to
timely and effectively expose the ills of the Cameroonian society, while our partnership with
community based grassroots organizations are instrumental to the
implementation of some of our projects.
Our idea is by no means novel, but it is still bold and ambitious. With
your support, we hope to make significant contributions in building a
strong, informed, and effective civil society in Cameroon. Many
Cameroonians, like me, are perturbed about the direction and future of
our country. Some of you may be very active advocates of social justice,
while others may have given up hope. PICAM provides an opportunity for
everyone to contribute in various ways to the transformation needed in
Cameroon. Our website site provides more information on our activities
and ways you could get involved in what we do. We hope to get you
onboard so that together we can work towards positive change in
Cameroon.
The conception of PICAM is global so we intend to export our idea to
other Africans of the Diaspora. Principles of human rights and democracy
transcend national boundaries and we hope to work with other African
brothers and sisters to institute progressive initiatives for other
African countries. Meanwhile, PICAM welcomes the participation and
involvement of all nationals in its activities.
Kind regards,
Eric Ngonji Njungwe.
Founder/Executive Director.
