FOUNDER'S MESSAGE

Discontent is the first step in the Progress of a Man or a Nation” - Oscar Wilde

I am pleased to introduce to you the Cameroon Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CCDHR). CCDHR is the result of years of reflection. CCDHR was incorporated as a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in the State of Maryland, United States of America on August 1, 2006 as an organization that will advocate for the institution of democracy in the Republic of Cameroon. CCDHR was originally registered as Progressive Initiative for Cameroon (PICAM). On November 30, 2010, the organization changed its name to the Cameroon Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CCDHR).

CCDHR was founded against the background of social injustices, human rights violations, poor governance, corruption, disregard for the rule of law, underdevelopment, lack of support mechanisms for the underprivileged, and other forms of social ills that continue to plague the Cameroonian society.

CCDHR’s main objective is to perpetuate the course of social justice through broad-based programs that promote a vibrant civil society capable of bringing about peaceful and meaningful change to the socio-political situation, and the establishment of a sustainable democracy in Cameroon. CCDHR carries out programs in five major areas – democracy, human rights,  rule of law, good governance, and public accountability. Visit our programs page for a full description of these programs. The goals of our programs are achieved through various projects. Visit our projects page for a description of our current projects.

CCDHR operates independently and also in partnership with other organizations that support its mission and vision. Our global affiliations give us the opportunity to timely and effectively expose the ills of the Cameroonian society, while our partnership with community based grassroots organizations are instrumental to the implementation of some of our projects.

Our idea is by no means novel, but our approach is bold and ambitious. With your support, we hope to make significant contributions in building a strong, informed, and effective civil society in Cameroon. Many Cameroonians are perturbed about the direction and future of their country. Some of you may be very active advocates of social justice, while others may have given up hope. CCDHR provides an opportunity for everyone to contribute in various ways to the democratic transformation needed in Cameroon. Our website provides more information on our activities and ways you could get involved in what we do. We hope to get you onboard so that together we can work towards positive change in Cameroon. Meanwhile, CCDHR welcomes the participation and involvement of all nationals in its activities.

Kind regards,

Eric Ngonji Njungwe.
Founder/Executive Director.
