PICAM is dedicated to improving and transforming the
Cameroonian society through innovative research, practice, and programs
based on a collection of factors necessary to foster an overall improvement
in human dignity. PICAM therefore adopts a comprehensive approach through a
combination of committed programs in human rights, democracy, peace
building, development, and humanitarian assistance.
PICAM was formed for the following purposes:
-
To promote the
principles of Human Rights in the Republic of Cameroon;
-
To promote the
principles of Democracy in the Republic of Cameroon;
-
To promote and
support Peace Building in the Republic of Cameroon;
-
To promote and
support Development projects in the Republic of Cameroon;
-
To promote, support,
and provide Humanitarian Assistance in the Republic of Cameroon;
-
To engage in any
other activities related to or incidental to achieving the above
purposes.
Below are descriptions of each of PICAM's five main program
areas.
Our human rights program seeks to defend all the rights
enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other
international conventions and national laws through investigation
and exposure of human rights abuses, while challenging the
authorities to investigate and bring to justice those responsible
for abuses on the belief that a timely protest can prevent abuses
from escalating.
To accomplish this objective, PICAM will do the following:
-
Promote
understanding of the principles of human rights.
-
Promote a
culture of human rights and respect for human rights principles.
-
Advocate,
petition, and defend victims of violations of human rights.
-
Document,
publicize, and denounce violations of human rights.

Our democracy program advocates for a culture of democracy
through promotion and support for the principles of rule of law,

and democratic participation, while preventing discriminatory and
corrupt practices.
To attain this purpose, PICAM will do the following:
-
Promote
understanding of the principles of democracy.
-
Promote a
culture of democracy and respect for democratic values.
-
Support and
defend democratic institutions.
-
Document,
publicize, and denounce undemocratic practices.

Our peace building program seeks to promote peaceful
coexistence, conflict management, and conflict resolution by
emphasizing that peace and stability are integral parts of human
interaction. PICAM will challenge elites and local rulers to seek
peaceful resolution to ethnic tensions while encouraging all
Cameroonians to see themselves first as Cameroonians. PICAM equally
underscores the correlation between peace and the principles of
human rights and democracy, thereby fostering the peaceful and
stable transformation of the Cameroonian society.
To achieve this goal, PICAM will do the following:
-
Promote
understanding of the principles of peace building and a culture
of peace.
-
Encourage,
promote, and support peace building initiatives.
-
Emphasize the
correlation between peace and stability and the concepts of
human rights and democracy.
-
Document,
publicize, and denounce measures that threaten the peace and
stability.

Our development program is designed to improve lives
through involved participation of communities especially at the
grassroots level. It is based on the notion that development is most
effective when initiated by those to benefit from it. PICAM’s
approach is to embrace communities as a fundamental part of their
success, operating with community input and involvement thereby
treating members of the community as active participants in their
own growth and development rather than passive observers.
To realize this purpose, PICAM will do the following:
-
Encourage
sustainable development projects.
-
Promote and
support human capacity building.
-
Encourage,
promote, and support community empowerment projects.
-
Encourage,
promote, and support self-sufficiency projects.

Our humanitarian assistance program aspires to help meet
the humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable members of society by
reaching those who are economically and socially outside the reach
of mainstream services and support, including the poor, orphans, the
sick, the disabled, the homeless , rural populations, children,
women, and other vulnerable or marginalized groups.
To achieve this goal, PICAM will do the following:
-
Promote an
understanding of the principles of humanitarian assistance.
-
Foster a
spirit of community volunteering and wiliness to assist those
in need.
-
Provide
humanitarian aid through relief to the poor, distressed, and
underprivileged.
